Reflexology for Pregnancy, Infertility & Miscarriage #01 I have undertaken advanced Maternity Reflexology training with Suzanne Enzer, a highly respected Midwife and Maternity Reflexologist. I have discovered some excellent techniques to offer support to pregnant ladies as well as post-natal mothers. I am really enjoying working in this field as reflexology can help women deal with hormonal and physical changes of pregnancy, prepare for birth and encourage mothers to recover physically and emotionally after birth.

Reflexology is one of the most popular complementary therapies used by women during pregnancy.  Reflexology treatments will put you in the best possible condition for whatever type of birthing you experience.

Reflexology improves general well-being, is very pleasant to receive, and induces a deep relaxation so your body can adjust more smoothly to the major changes required at this time. Treatments help ease or prevent the many discomforts and ailments commonly associated with pregnancy. Reflexology is a safe treatment to receive throughout the pregnancy. Though more precautions are taken in the first trimester of pregnancy, a client can benefit from sessions from before conception till well after the baby's birth.

It reduces the effects of stress and modern day pressures on mother and baby: improves vitality, circulation, breathing, digestion and sleep and helps normalise blood pressure.

Reflexology has established its reputation and popularity by the effective results people experience.  Trials have found that those receiving regular treatments during pregnancy tend to deliver closer to term and have shorter labours. With many expectant mothers having to work close up to their expected due dates, with a risk of going into labour already exhausted, the restorative effects of reflexology can be immensely valuable.  It helps prime your body for birthing.

If your baby does not arrive on time I can use PRIMING FOR LABOUR techniques after your due date to encourage labour.

Reflexology offers a natural and safe way of helping you to cope with the rapid changes your body goes through during pregnancy and can help with related conditions that may arise such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Morning sickness
  • Backache / sciatica
  • Heartburn
  • Indigestion
  • Shortness of breath
  • Symphysis Pubis Disorder (SPD) or Pelvic Disorder Syndrome (PDS)
  • IBS/ Constipation / Diarrhoea
  • Cystitis
  • Oedema (mild swelling in the hands/ankles)
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Headaches / migraines
  • Itchy skin
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Mood swings

"This is the first time that I have had a course of reflexology and it made such a huge difference to my pregnancy. I just feel so good and Debi designed the treatments to suit my needs. In fact it was so beneficial I am continuing my treatment now my baby has been born".

"The ante natal reflexology worked really well - my first session resulted in a masive toxin "flush" from my body and I felt better and more "at one" with myself than I had throughout my pregnancy. I also suffered from a painful hip from day one (presume it was the pressure of where she was lying) and again, after every session I slept better than I had in ages.

At my due date, Debi tried an induction technique which she intensified once I was 3 days overdue. The next day I felt really "niggly" and my blood pressure had gone labile which meant I had to go into Worcester for monitoring. They induced me straight away but found I was 2cm dilated and having contractions that I couldn't feel!! My labour lasted an hour and a half and I pushed for 2 contractions. I had no pain relief. Fantastic. I am sure the reflexology played a huge part in my already being in early labour and how relaxed I felt through pregnancy and labour itself."

"I had reflexology when I was pregnant. Debi was fantastic. It was the first time I'd had reflexology and Debi was really lovely, she made me feel completely at ease. My baby was facing the wrong way and after a couple of sessions she turned around. The reflexology also seemed to help with all the other aches and pains of later pregnancy (back ache, tiredness, nausea). It was also just nice to have some real "me time" and be pampered. It was very relaxing and I slept for hours afterwards."

"I am very pleased that I "found" Debi in time to benefit from the treatments and chats. Having my regular reflexology session throughout my pregnancy really helped me to relax especially while I was still working. I frequently fell asleep! The reflexology helped to relieve many of my preganancy symptoms such as backache and constipation. Debi is easy to talk to about all areas of pregnancy and made me feel more like a friend than a client."

Trying to conceive? How reflexology can help you

Having a child of your own is one of the most enriching experiences that a couple can have.

However, an increasing number of women are finding it difficult to conceive with as many as one in three couples experiencing fertility problems. Of these, one in six will seek medical help with conception.

Getting help to get pregnant can be both stressful and expensive with private medicine sometimes only available to those who can afford it. Complementary therapy can provide help and support for only a fraction of the price.

Many couples who are finding it difficult to conceive have found natural help through reflexology. Research suggests that on average about 50% of clients seeking help through reflexology for infertility find themselves pregnant within 6 months of commencing treatment.

There are no guarantees of course, but many clients have found reflexology has helped them to conceive where everything else has failed. Reflexology is incredibly calming and relaxing and can help balance the hormones that are fundamental to the optimum functioning of the reproductive system. Reflexology can be particularly beneficial for women suffering from endometriosis and PCOS for example.

    Reflexology helps:

  • Balance hormone levels
  • Regulate the menstrual cycle
  • Boost blood circulation
  • The whole body to relax
  • Stimulate endorphin release - the feel good hormone

    Stress and conception

There is no doubt that stress can play a very significant factor in an individuals ability to conceive and reflexology is highly succesful as a method of managing and reducing stress. Often, the longer you are trying to conceive, the greater the stress, and a viscious cycle can be triggered. Reflexology can help reduce this stress which in turn leads to improvements in overall health.

I have undertaken advance tranining in Infertility with Barbara Scott, acknowledged as one of the UK's leading experts in working with couples undergoing assisted fertilty treatment. I am happy to treat women at any stage in their fertility planning, whether they are enhancing their general health before trying for a baby, experiencing problems with conception or require help and guidance during pregnancy.

Many of my clients are undergoing fertility treatment with conventional medical practitioners. I work in a way that enhance their therapies and boost the chances of success using your body's own mechanisms.

    Miscarriage

About 98% of all early miscarriages are caused by chromosomal abnormalities in the foetus. A first trimester miscarriage is always an emotional time for the woman even with an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy. The loss of a wanted or long awaited precious pregnancy is devastating. A late miscarriage is a truly grievous event. Reflexology helps to rebalance the endocrine and the lymphatic system. This is provided with great care, concern and great listening skills.

If there is a risk of foetal loss due to other causes, such as habitual miscarriage, when the client has reflexology her being is more balanced and so there is a good possibility that she will be able to maintain her pregnancy.

*Maternity Reflexology is a complementary health support for infertility and maternity clients and is not a substitute for obstetric or medical care.
